I can offer no suggestions about brand. Yes, I would believe that you could use an SSD with Vista but as part of the transfer process, you would need to correct the alignment.

There are several ways to do this. I would assume that you would remove the current and put the SD in its place and then restore a backup of your current configuration. You would need to restore one partition at a time and resize the first partition back near its approximately original size before your fix. The 2nd and 3rd partitions would remain their current size and the c drive could consume all the other space.

You would need a current disk option backup of your current fixed 3 partition setup. As part of the restore of the first partition, you would need to set the “free space before” to 1 mb in order for it to work correctly. The program may or may not allow this setting. If it does not, then we would need to achieve the 1mb setting by other means. I have some ideas as to how to fix the alignment issues using Vista but we would have to test it first by creating a new partition any size on the SSD when the SSD is attached to Vista.

We would verify that the offset is correct and if correct, we would then restore the backup onto the SSD and retain the correct offset. You shouldn’t need to do anything special. If you have installed W7 on a new disk, with no partitions, then W7 will have formatted the drive to the new Microsoft standard and TI 10 will not know anything about this.

This might cause a restore problem. If there were partitions made by XP or a Vista upgrade then you’ll probably be OK as these partitions will be in the old style format. Have you been able to mount an image? And did you do an image restore rather than just test the boot disk? What build are you running? Newly built Win 7 Pro x64 system.

Clarification of my earlier statement: Reporting that TI works properly on your system can be useful for troubleshooting, but the value of each positive or negative report goes up exponentially if we all supply key information for comparison purposes.

I actually overdid it somewhat on the the hardware specs posted above. The following items should be useful in determining if certain configurations are problematic :. Acronis version: TI build 6. Hardware reset required – ctl-alt-delete doesn’t respond after a while – and when it does early on in the hang it appears that it keeps attempting to kill explorer.

Attempts to kill the process from very early task manager kills will result in a confirm window that hangs. Used to crash repeatedly under Vista on same hw and often had to be reinstalled to get it to work. Sadly, that trick appears to be broken now. BTW – their website doesn’t work either – at least not with Firefox – tried to report the problem and after typing in the details, it barfed on “connection problems” Have you tried using the resuce CD, just to see if you have the same sort of problems.

If you are backing up via a network, there could be a timeout problem occuring and TI just gives up. I also have asimilar problem with Firefox and IE8, and yes it does get worse when TI is running a schedule, BUT, and here is a big but, on my latop I have a pre release version of TI installed as well as the trial version of the security suite and although Firefox and IE8 still hiccup occasionally Safari for Windows doesn’t – so it is debatable whether TI is the culprit or just manages to exacerbate a problem with Firefox and IE8.

Setting up cloning is done in Windows. I think this is a 5-step process. When finished, there is a “Congratulations One can then begin using the cloned drive as an original — the motherboard or the OS or Bill Gates will never know the difference! It’s that powerful a tool For me, anyway, it’s the easiest, fastest, cheapest, safest way to “backup” a drive.

Could you make the rescue CD and try it from that? If the rescue CD boots but has the same problem as the Windows based version, then I suspect the drive sizes might be the problem.

Note that Version 9 is like 5 or 6 years old and you could have driver issues with the bootCD on a 1TB drive. But I’d certianly try it. Update on EFS problems. I am a newcomer to Acronis Home as of last night. I have separately posted my satisfaction with backup and restore of a TrueCrypt container file. Not the same for an EFS folder tree. I have the same problem as people above, but can add a little new info. First, I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit, Acronis , build I am logged on as a Standard user but when Acronis starts, it asks for an admin password, which I duly entered.

I know that Acronis stays in admin mode because when I saved a backup log file, it was saved to the Administrator profile, not to my standard user profile. My test was to backup an EFS encrypted folder tree. I checked the box “store encrypted files in a decrypted state. As you can see from the log entry above, the problem was “access denied. The backup works if you don’t select the option. You need to backup your EFS key if you rely on this backup as a file backup.

If your EFS encrypted files are included in a full system disk and partion backup, you are in good shape. Such a backup would restore all the information as it was, and the EFS files will be readable. If you use a file backup and store the files encrypted the only option that works , you will need your EFS key backp to access the files if you restore these files on a different computer.
